2-2 Self Esteem Builder or Blocker?

In June 2010, Urban Outfitters released this t-shirt with this description: “Eat less or more or however much you’d like in this seriously soft knit tee cut long and topped with a v-neck.” They should have printed that whole description instead of just “eat less” which seems to promote an unhealthy lifestyle and body image. Image

I think that if they made the shirt for its “serious softness” they shouldn’t bother even bother with writing anything on it. The girl wearing it is already fairly skinny and it looks like what shes advertising is to eat less.

This shirt is definitely a self esteem blocker. If someone were to wear this shirt who was slightly bigger if I saw this, I would be prejudice to the fact that it seems they’re basically promoting an eating disorder. And if a skinny girl was wearing this, it would almost be like they’re setting the standard for what ‘skinny’ is.

I think that this shirt is defiantly a self-esteem blocker. This shift is basically saying that if you have this shirt/ wearing this shirt has a eating disorder. Or they are already skinny and they got skinny because they have an eating disorder and this is what skinny is suppose to look like to them. Its crazy!

If the description is “Eat less or more or however much you’d like” then it should say the whole message or nothing. If a girl sees the shirt and starts to question if she is skinny enough then her self-esteem will drop. The girl in the ad is skinny and girls that see her will think that if they “eat less” then they might be as skinny as her but it could just lead to an eating disorder.

I think they should of wrote the entire thing because just seeing the eat less makes me think they are saying girls are to fat and should eat less. Seeing that shirt just brings down my self esteem because that girl is already super skinny and it just looks like their telling her to be even skinnier which just leads to eating disorders. They should of just taken the time to write the entire thing out.

I think if Urban Outfitters was trying to convey the message of being satisfied with yourself than they should have written the whole message. and besides what would be the point of manufacturing a size xs/s (which that girl clearly is) when she couldn’t possibly eat any less without getting an eating disorder.

It’s definetly a self esteem blocker. If i was unsure about the way i looked and i saw that shirt i wouldn’t bother picking up seeing as i wouldn’t think i’d have the body for it. If they wanted to convey the message that it doesn’t matter how much you eat then why would they put “Eat Less” on the front?

by any means nobody could confuse this with helping anyones self esteem, it is most definetly a self esteem blocker, this shirt could offend people in alot of different ways for both over weight and ” normal” under weight people. they should have wrote the whole message since if there trying to persway people that it doesnt matter what size you are, than what is realisticly the point of wrighting ” eat less” right smack in the middle of the shirt…

i feel like urban outifiters is trying to set a trend with a skinny appearance. they deffinatly should have printed out the whole sentence instead of ‘Eat less” i agree with chloe as it is a self esteem blocker. it will make people feel like crap and decrease their self esteem noticeably and its just ridiculous.

I think that they should have wrote the whole thing because the t-shirt is promoting an unhealthy lifestyle and telling girls you have to eat less to look good, that being skinny is all that matters when that isn’t true. There is enough pressure on girls already to eat less and loose weight and it causes so many problems they don’t need their favourite stores promoting it even more.

this is deffinetly a self esteem BLOCKER. this shirt is very horrible. if an over weight girl was to wear this everyone would probably just laugh, but if a skinny girl wore this people would think she had a eating disorder, either way the outcome is negative. they deffinetly shouldve printed the whole discription.

  12. alyssa lynch says:

They defiantly should have wrote the whole message on the shirt because it clearly comes off as something different than the message they’re trying to send. I don’t know if i’d go as far to say it affected anyone but i don’t know that for a fact. I don’t agree with the clothing at all and can say its for sure a self esteem blocker.
